A comedy of errors. - I found this book to be an absolute miserable experience. While the writing is excellent, and the book is easy to read, and you can project genuine feeling for the main characters, I found myself laughing out loud at the end because the author kept piling the problems on them. There was just so much misery that it became silly. It became a Monty Python movie at the end. How unlucky can people be? All of the a**holes in the book thrived and prospered while the protagonist and other good people suffered horrible fates. If anything, this book has reinforced my desire to never visit India.

A good book - I found this book a bit slow at times and really long. However it was well written and had an interesting plot. If you re into reading about the life and times of three families who s lives have become interwoven in India and have come to depend on each other than this is your book!

Raising Consciousness - I still search the eyes of Indian men I meet, hoping to see Omprakash or Irvash -- that s how profoundly real are Rohington Mistry s characters, I still order chapatis each chance I get, and I still admire Dina for serving them in the best teacups. If literature is to change the world by educating and raising consciousness, this book is a great start.Maggie PagratisAthse Publishing

One of my Favorites! - Simply heart breaking. This is not a story that you will read to find happy endings, you will find hope, but not a happy ending. This book is very realistic and every one should read it just to realize how lucky we all are.

The best of the best - Breathtaking.......rips your heart out and then stomps on it. Loved every page. Mistry is a genious.... he has the ability to write beautiful prose and memorable characters on every page.
